Network access rules

Access rules are not required if a simple login and logout process is needed, where users have either no access or full access to the network. Access rules can determine what users can access both before and after login.

If in doubt, don't set any rules until there is a need to block access to something after login.

Rules can be associated with a device (MAC address) or a user. Rules are applied at login

  • A rule can be created as an Allow, Block or (require authentication)
  • The rule order is defined by the user or device (not this page)
  • Rules can be layered to create custom access profiles for each user or device
  • An alert can be triggered if a rules is matched (applied)
  • A final catch-all rule or default policy is set for each user or device
  • A global default policy and rule list is set on the devices page
